We are excited to celebrate our one year anniversary with you all, and what a crazy ride it has been. We’ve hosted Jimmy Edgar, Girl Unit, Addison Groove, Aden, DJ Funk, L-Vis 1990, Bok Bok, Egyptian Lover, Doctor Jeep, Wheezie, Oneman, Pearson Sound, Parris Mitchell, Helix, and countless other touring and local guests who have all made Shake! Boston the party we’ve come to know and love. And most of all, we’d like to thank all of you for coming month after month and dancing with us, so we’re pulling out all the stops for our anniversary…
Joining us this month will be none other than house music legend Todd Terry performing a classic house inspired set. Todd the God is one of the world’s most celebrated figures in dance music. With nearly three decades of dance floor domination under Todd’s belt the quality of his productions goes from strength, to strength. Todd has released countless classic tracks from A Day In The Life, Weekend, and Can You Party, released under monikers such as the Todd Terry Project, House Of Gypsies, and Royal House, and has worked under the Masters of Work moniker, bestowed upon him by the legendary duo Louie Vega and Kenny Gonzalez. Lately, Todd has been as busy as ever, continuing to release a steady stream of singles and EPs on labels such as Strictly Rhythm, Clone/Royal Oak, Get Physical, InHouse, and more. Routinely packing huge floors across the globe, this is a rare chance to catch a true legend in our intimate home, Good Life.
The Shake Residents will be on hand to get things started, and we are glad to announce Ali Berger will be back for a special appearance, joined by Dev/Null, Damian Silva, and Fens in the booth. For the uninitiated, the Shake Residents have been involved in some of the biggest events in the Boston area, including BASSIC, Heartthrob, JASS, and Scanners, and all four of them will be on hand to warm up the dancefloor and deliver the goods.
This one will be for the books, and we can’t wait to share with you what we have planned for 2016. Thank you all for an amazing first year!

Oneman is a club DJ through and through. As much as his sets may have started turning heads by melding old school UK garage with DMZ style dubstep, he’s proven through his DJ sets and his regular presence on London institution Rinse FM that he can do so much more than just marry classics with current beats. Whether through his famed hip hop & R&B sets for The Boiler Room, the festival smashing back to back sets with Jackmaster as Can U Dance or opening for dance titans such as SBTRKT and Major Lazer, Oneman has that rare ability to destroy any party and leave you in no doubt who it was you’ve been listening to. Oneman, in his own, understated way, changed the face of British dance music.
He has a way of pulling off the unconventional every single time, whether it’s long, extended blends that sound like they shouldn’t work or a hardpan from 2010 to 1998. Fabric went on to applaud Oneman by stating, “There are DJs that are heavily tied to styles, people who go on to become figures synonymous with a certain sound or a particular approach to mixing; and then there are DJ’s DJs – a different breed of people who manage to make the whole process of blending records from disparate genres look (and sound) seamless. Often, it’s not just about beat matching perfectly, it’s as much about capturing a mood and evolving it through your record selections as it is locking on to a consistent rhythm and that’s something that Streatham bred DJ, Steve Bishop, has proven himself to be mightily adept at over the years”

Hosting a weekly mix show on local station 90.3FM WZBC, he has been delivering well crafted selections from a wide variety of backgrounds. And you can always expect quality and diversity, both known and otherwise.

The Egyptian Lover has been bringing you that sound you have enjoyed for over 30 years. Some call it Electro, some call it Hip Hop, some call it Old School, some call it Rap, but he calls it “Dance Music”. Egyptian Lover makes music to make you dance.
He started out as a DJ in 1978 and became the headlining DJ for Uncle Jam’s Army in 1982. His first time in the studio he recorded the “Breakin’ & Entering” soundtrack. A true “Electro” recording and the first of its kind. Getting his inspiration from artists like Kraftwerk and enjoying the Roland TR-808 drum machine, he began programming beats and rapping over them like a madman.
When asked about his experiences he stated, “I had so much fun in the studio I had to go back and record some more. I booked the studio time and grabbed my notebook of raps and went to the studio to record my solo project “Beast Beats”. My mother and sister read the title of my song and said, “You better not make that song, Don’t play with the Devil”. So I went back to the studio and the song became “Egypt Egypt”—and quickly became an LA dance anthem!

Founder of the Beantown Boogiedown blog and Zakim label, Nick Minieri keeps his fingers on the pulse of Boston’s underground scene as much as humanly possible. A DJ and record collector for 15 years, Minieri has no problem navigating numerous styles, connecting the dots between house, techno, drum and bass, or whatever’s needed to get the job done. In recent times Minieri has also been producing original music, combining his love for sound design, sampling and synthesis under one umbrella.

Dev/Null got started by listening to Crazy Jungle / DNB in the mid to late 90’s, which then lead him to music production. Dev/Null now focuses much of his time on his website BLOG TO THE OLDSKOOL, 7 years running, that is dedicated to oldskool UK hardcore/jungle, as well as DJ-ing biweekly sets on online stations Jungletrain.net and Radio Frontline. Additionally, he started a label 8205 RECORDINGS dedicated to releasing unreleased 91-95 UK Jungle on vinyl, and was recently listed as one of Fact Magazine’s “100 Underrated DJs Who Deserves More Shine”.

Co-Founder of Boston’s longest running dubstep night BASSIC, Dungeons & Dragons lover, and Grand Master Wizard. And now DJ and Production instructor at MMMMaven.
There are few producers in modern electronic music who have had as indelible of an impact as David Kennedy has had over the past decade. From his emergence under the moniker Ramadanman, to his highly acclaimed releases under the Pearson Sound and Maurice Donovan identities, David, together with his Hessle Audio partners Ben UFO and Pangaea, have brought an original and profound new perspective into the bass music world. With a sound that places an emphasis on bassweight, space, and vacancies, Pearson Sound has brought underground and more experimental works to the main rooms of clubs all over the world, and his latest self titled LP released this year was a masterpiece in improvisation and stripped down production. As a DJ, few are able to match his ability to draw from the furthest corners of the bass world and pair tracks in reinventing ways.
At his core, Kennedy is a relentless style maven, a forward-looking producer and DJ whose curiosity and appetite for the new and regional is constantly developing. (To wit: he often gets credit for being one of the first European DJs to adopt the Footwork sound, and its brash repetition suits him perfectly.) He deals in a stridently rhythmic brand of techno, borrowing the syncopation of dubstep, but with amped-up tempos and elements of reggae, UK funky, drum & bass, and Detroit techno stirred in. We are psyched to bring him back to the Good Life basement to really shake the place up!

He has releases on Interchill, Crux, Dubs Alive, TUBA, Brap Dem, Full Melt, Voltage, and Kush Arora Productions. If there’s one thing we can expect from him, it’s his signature deep dubstep sound. Label head and founder of the seminal Night Slugs label, Bok Bok (Alex Sushon) draws from a creative pool that has launched some of the best club material of all time. Started in the MySpace era with co-founder L-Vis 1990, Night Slugs has been delivering ground breaking sounds and hosting legendary club nights way before many of his contemporaries. The hallmark of Bok Bok’s career is to curate and foster emerging genres. His ability to transcend music, sounds, and definition, while staying true to his grime and bass heavy roots, has set him and the Night Slugs crew apart by a wide margin. Often imitated, but rarely bested, he has released on some of the best labels around, from Sound Pellegrino, Monkeytown, Brainfeeder, Mixpak, and countless others, yet his true legacy lies with Night Slugs, which brings us to our next esteemed guest…

Since he first took to DJing in 2008, local Fens (Matt Rohr) has carved his way through Boston through countless storied club nights and parties. From his early beginnings with Banana Peel Records, where his collaborations with CreateSpace Collab helped launch the Good Life staple, Sweet Shop, to his involvement with the JASS crew, which helped bring several groundbreaking, and now much sought after producers to town for their first Boston performances, Fens has always placed an emphasis on new and fresh, which brings him to his involvement with Shake, where he continues to help bring Boston the best in dance music. It’s hard to explain what it’s like to hear Houston native Wheez-ie behind the turntables. He’s technically skilled beyond most DJs’ wildest dreams. He has a wide-ranging taste in music, from Southern rap to juke to jungle to Eurodance. Most importantly, he has the rare ability turn his skills and taste into sets that are fun to dance to. Sure, you can watch in awe as he throws down track after unbelievable track faster than a club hip-hop DJ, but more likely you’ll be too busy losing your mind out on the floor. Good Life was Wheez-ie’s home turf when he lived in Boston and we’re pumped to welcome him back for another night of mayhem.

Boston stalwarts Lindale (Hendra Marshall and Charles Beck) have manned the airwaves on RWD.fm every Tuesday night for 3 years, often joined by deMC (Harrison Brown) on the mic. Their passion for music is beyond question, as is their record collection. These three share that chemistry that only comes from years of playing music together and we’re excited to hand them the sound system and see what they have in store for us.

Fens has been a behind-the-scenes member of the Shake crew for the last few months. After a hiatus from DJ gigs he’s back with a vengeance and plenty of dope tunes–the time is right for him to step up and rock the house. He’s joined by veteran DJ and fellow Mmmmaven instructor Damian Silva. You probably know Damian as a key member of the legendary BASSIC crew but his taste extends into techno, house and electro, and if you’ve seen him DJ you know he’s always on point.

Shake! returns for May with yet another wild double headliner strictly for the freaks: Dance Mania’s DJ Funk and Parris Mitchell!
Where do you even start with a legend like DJ Funk? Since his first release on Dance Mania in 1993 he’s become a household name, and with good reason–he’s responsible for countless bangin beats and hype vocals. We’re pumped to Pump It with the creator of so many Ghetto House Anthems, especially because he’s bringing along a drum machine and a synth for some live set action.

Alongside DJ Funk we have another house hero: Parris Mitchell. He’s been a staple in the Chicago scene since the mid-’80s, releasing his first record on Ray Barney’s label Bright Star Records in 1987. Mitchell went on to be an important part of the Dance Mania roster, releasing classics like “Butter Fly” and “Follow Me Ghetto”. In the past few years lots of his material has been reissued and he’s become something of a spokesperson for Dance Mania in the label’s resurgence. We’re looking forward to getting educated out on the dancefloor.

If one of the Night Slugs founders wasn’t enough for you, we brought along one of the label’s later signees. Helix first appeared on Night Slugs with the “Drum Track” white label in 2012 before dropping Club Constructions Vol. 4 the following year. Since then he’s been active under his DJ Vague alias, but most recently fired off a ripping FACT mix that shows off his knowledge of a wide range of party music and the DJ skills to tie it all together.
