The third time’s the charm! We cannot thank you all enough for the support you’ve shown us as we get Shake Boston off the ground. Join us in March for our third edition of Shake! to do it all again. But this time with the one-and-only, elusive creative genius known as ADEN!
We’ll just come out and say it: the man behind this unfamiliar name is Travis Stewart, a veteran producer who’s been setting off dancefloors as Machinedrum for 15 years. As Aden he makes pure and effective stomping club tracks. It’s no surprise Stewart would need an outlet for this music–he co-runs the Ultramajic label with Jimmy Edgar. Edgar absolutely leveled the first Shake party back in December and we’re incredibly excited to see what Aden has in store for us this month. (P.S.… He’s playing a 2-hour set).

Will Martin should be a familiar name to most Boston clubgoers. He moved to New York in December but while he lived in Boston he played excellent sets all over the city, including the monthly Gallery party at which he was a resident. In 2014 he and John Barera released a full-length album on Dolly which earned rave reviews in XLR8R, Resident Advisor, and numerous other publications. Will comes to us fresh from gigs at Fabric and Tresor. Need we say more?

Are you ready to SHAKE Boston? After the unforgettable debut night with Jimmy Edgar in December, we wanted to bring you another party that will have you dancing from the beginning until when the lights come on at the end! So we brought you TWO deejays that are making serious moves in the underground bass and techno world. We highly recommend getting there EARLY to see everyone’s full set!
Tony Williams knows how to move people. As Headhunter, he was an important figure in dubstep, releasing on Tempa and other influential labels. Now he works as Addison Groove, a project that exploded with the infamous track “Footcrab”, a juke-influenced drum machine workout picked up by DJs the world over, not just in the dubstep scene. Now two albums and several EPs deep on Modeselektor’s 50Weapons label, Addison Groove continues to shake dancefloors with a powerful blend of dubstep, juke, jungle, and ghettotech.

Girl Unit’s Facebook page lists his genre simply as “CLUB”–no one word sums it up better. As an important part of Bok Bok & L-Vis 1990’s Night Slugs crew, Girl Unit has explored a wide range of club sounds, from the euphoric electro of “Ensemble (Club MIx)” to the pumping drumtracks of his Hysterics alias. As a DJ his range is even wider, bringing classic electro, techno, and booty music together with the most up-to-date underground bass and club music around. He hasn’t been to Boston in 4 years–don’t miss out.

Ali Berger is a producer, live act, and DJ committed to the party. He plays with love and uncompromising honesty no matter the time and place, from peak-hours club sets to casual afternoon jams. Ali can be spotted teaching music production at Mmmmaven, spinning records and CDs all around the northeast, and occasionally hauling a suitcase full of drum machines to a club for a rare live PA set.

Dev/Null (Pete Cassin) got started by listening to Crazy Jungle / DNB in the mid to late 90’s, which then lead him to music production. He was able to release much of his brain-busting experimental breakcore music on several notable European labels and perform shows in the UK, Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and Japan. Dev/Null now focuses much of his time on his website BLOG TO THE OLDSKOOL, 7 years running, that is dedicated to oldskool UK hardcore/jungle, as well as DJ-ing biweekly sets on online stations Jungletrain.net and Radio Frontline. Additionally, Dev/Null started a label 8205 RECORDINGS dedicated to releasing unreleased 91-95 UK Jungle on vinyl, and was recently listed as one of Fact Magazine’s “100 Underrated DJs Who Deserves More Shine”.

From the people that brought you Label Takeover, we are bringing JIMMY EDGAR back to Boston after 2 years! We are beyond excited for this and hope you are too.
The word talented does not even begin to describe the multifaceted and creative visionary Jimmy Edgar — a musician, artist, graphic designer, photographer, DJ, producer, film maker, label owner, and much more. Born in Detroit, Jimmy grew up in a place and time when you could hear ghetto-tech, house, and R&B almost anywhere. This influenced Jimmy at the age of 15 as he began experimenting with sound manipulation, playing drums and saxophone, and later, played piano at a local Baptist gospel church. Eventually, this lead to Jimmy entering the techno scene and spinning at Detroit raves alongside legends Derrick May, Juan Atkins, and Kevin Saunderson.
At 18, Jimmy signed with Warp Records which launched his career to be noticed and loved by audiences worldwide for his refined music, customized visual shows, and ability to get people dancing—especially at his debut at the Detroit Music Festival where the security guards were getting down to his music and joining in on the rave.
He has released music on influential labels like !K7 and Hotflush Records. Over the years, Jimmy has been able to meld the analog and digital world in the musical way possible. In an interview with Koma Elektronik, Jimmy described himself as a “synth nerd” and explained his musical transition from using early analog synthesizers (like the 808) to involving more complex polysynths and modular synths to recording analog sounds in combination with digital techniques.
Jimmy’s latest creation is Ultramajic—his label that is a collaboration between Jimmy Edgar, Travis Stewart (Machinedrum), and artist Pilar Zeta. Since it’s inception in 2013, Ultramajic has released groundbreaking music from Jimmy Edgar, Aden (aka Machinedrum), Danny Daze, Spatial, SOPHIE, and Chambray, as well as, vibrant, spiritual, and meticulously designed graphics by Pilar Zeta and Jimmy that have branded the look and mission of Ultramajic. “We are exploring ideas about musical shamanism, digital altars, and meditation through color and vibration,” Edgar entices.
